Ceci n’est qu’un billet afin d’augmenter la portée de la mise en garde contre la mise à jour de l’extension Unite pour Gnome-shell.
I had a problem a few days ago due to an update, I couldn’t login to my session anymore.
After a second, my session was closing and I was thrown back on the login screen.
So I decided to reinstall Ubuntu and after an update, stuck again!
After hours of internet research, I found it was due to a Gnome-shell extension : Unite.
The latest version is buggy, DO NOT INSTALL it from the gnome-shell extensions website, but by hand from the GitHub page.
Download the ZIP on the page :
https://github.com/hardpixel/unite-shell
Extract the folder « unite@hardpixel.eu » and paste it in « ~/.local/share/gnome-shell/extensions »
Reboot Gnome-Shell with Alt+F2 to open a terminal and type « r » (without quotation marks) then Enter.
Open « Tweak » in your softwares > Extensions > then configure Unite as you need.
If you have already updated the extension and are stuck, just remove the extension folder via the following commands:
On login screen, press: Ctrl+Alt+F1 to open a terminal
Type your login and your password, then copy the following command:
sudo rm -r ~/.local/share/gnome-shell/extensions/unite@hardpixel.eu
Then Enter. Be careful to write the line of code correctly.
Press Ctrl+Alt+F7 to return in graphic mode and enter in your session.
Same for me, but with the Workspace Grid Gnome extension. Could finally log in after I removed it… thanks for the tip!
